Community Outreach

Grinaker-LTA strives to ensure that its work benefits as many people as possible whilst providing stability and security for future generations. The Group has committed to spend 1% of annual earnings on corporate social investment.

While particular emphasis is placed on education, particularly in the fields of maths, science and engineering, the Group also provides assistance aimed at improving the lives and well-being of communities with which it has a relationship.

Significant funds have been committed to the National Business Initiative (NBI), an organisation created to enhance a business's contribution to South Africa's success. The NBI's three main thrusts to improving the lot of the ordinary South African are education, economic growth and effective governance.

The Group has recently allocated funding for educational material for the Math's Centre for Professional Teachers.  This is in addition to the assistance given to upgrading existing schools and building new schools in both urban and rural areas.

The Group, together with its parent company Aveng, has agreed to substantial donation for the Community and Individual Development Association (CIDA) University in Johannesburg. This donation is not purely monetary contribution, but one in which a partnership between the institutions will be developed so that both partners obtain more benefit. It is hoped that the Group will be able to utilize its expertise in assisting CIDA to create suitable facilities for teaching and that in turn suitable students will be given the opportunity of employment in the Group.

Individual business units are committed to assisting the communities in which they work by sponsoring local events and creating opportunities for the transfer of skills.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Grinaker-LTA strives to ensure a positive impact on the communities in which it operates. Where possible, we will contract local staff on projects and offer specialised training to ensure a high standard of work delivery.

By investing in the local communities where we operate, Grinaker-LTA aims to have a sustainable contribution which will establish growth of small- to medium-sized enterprises and outsource of goods and services from local vendors where appropriate.
